The capstone project, entitled “Fish Catch Monitoring System” will automate the process of recording and monitoring fish catches. The said project is intended to be used by fisherman and fish markets to accurately record fish catches and will also keep the records electronically safe and secure.
The traditional method of recording fish catch information is done through the paper and pen approach. The manual method is not efficient for it involves too much paper works and requires physical storage. The manual method is prone to human errors. Fish catch information may be recorded inaccurately and records may be misplaced. There is a need for an effective system to streamline the process of recording and monitoring fish catch information.
Proposed Solution
To address the aforementioned concerns, the researchers of the study aim to develop an automated Fish Catch Monitoring System. The system will eliminate the problems encountered in the manual process and will make the records accurate and reliable. The proposed system will be able to accurately record information of the fish catches delivered in the market. Fish Catch Monitoring System will make fish catch monitoring easy, fast, accurate, reliable, and convenient.
Objectives of the Study
General Objective – the researchers of the project generally aim to design and develop a Fish Catch Monitoring System that is reliable in recording and providing accurate fish catch information.
The project specifically aims the following objectives:
- To design a system that will allow electronic recording of fish catches.
- The system will serve as a repository of records of fish catch information.
- The system will ease up monitoring of fish catch records.
- The system will help fish markets keep track of fish catches deposited in the market.
- To develop a system that will make fish-catch-related transactions easy, fast and convenient.
Significance of the Study
The success of the project is deemed beneficial to the following individuals or groups:
Fish Markets. The success of the project will benefit them by allowing them to electronically records fish catchers delivered in the market. It will lessen their paper works and errors in the recording will be prevented.
Fisherman. The system will help in assuring them that the fishes they caught will be recorded accurately and the records will also serve as a basis in paying them with the rightful amount.
Researchers. The success of the project will be charged to the researcher’s experience. It will further enhance their skills and knowledge in developing programs.
Future Researchers. The project will serve as their guide in developing updating the system or if they wish to develop their own version.
Development Tools
The capstone project entitled “Fish Catch Monitoring System” is a system that allows electronic management and recording of fish catch information. The system will automate the process of recording and keeping records of fish catches.
This article will provide you with an idea on what are the forms to be included in a Fish Catch Monitoring System. PHP and Bootstrap were used to develop the said template.
Documentation of the project is available upon request (chapters 1 to 5). Feel free to message us for the complete documentation of the project.
Project Highlights
The project ”Fish Catch Monitoring System” is a database-driven system that will automate the processes of managing records in fish markets. The system will help in providing accurate and secure records of fish catches.

Use Case Diagram
The image shown above is the use case diagram of the proposed system; the diagram has two actor; the fisherman and the management. Management needs to conduct profiling of the fishermen and encode the information in the database system. Furthermore, the fisherman can now submit or record their fish catch via the online platform with GPS tracking or video recording. Reports submitted by the fishermen are consolidated in the platform for data analysis and archiving purposes.
Entity Relationship Diagram and Database Design
The image shows above is the entity relationship diagram of the proposed system. The diagram shows 5 entities with their respective attributes. The management is represented as the user entity is connected to the fisherman entity since they will they will be the one to record and profile the fisherman information. In addition, the fisherman may have multiple vessels under his name in which it is connected to the catch entity where they record their fish catch. Furthermore, they can also upload a video of their catch for evidence purposes.
Conclusion
The researchers conducted the study to assess the current method of monitoring fish caught in the fishing market. The researchers have seen that the current method is not effective and is prone to human errors. There is a need for an effective and efficient system to streamline the process of monitoring fish catch records. The researchers developed a Fish Catch Monitoring System as a response to the aforementioned need of fisherman and fish markets.
The result of the study showed that the developed Fish Catch Monitoring System met the needs and requirements of the respondents and intended users. The majority of the project’s respondents and intended users have seen the potential of the system in completely eliminating the issues and difficulties encountered in the manual method. The developed system will assist the fisherman and fishing market to automate the process of recording fish-catch-related information. The system will allow the intended users to electronically record fish catches. The developed system will keep the records safe and secured.
