Introduction of the Study
The capstone project entitled “Fire & Smoke Alarm System with SMS Notification” will design and develop a system that will raise alarm in cases of fire and smoke occurrence. The system will have a notification feature through sending a short message to the registered number of the user in the system.
A fire outbreak is considered as a major tragedy that must be avoided by any means due to possible result which are loss of lives and property. Fire outbreak when not controlled may grow larger and may require days to put under control. In most cases during fire outbreak, fire fighters correspond in situations where the fire is already out of range. Uncontrolled fires were due to lack and inefficient fire and smoke alarm system that can be utilize to detect early and controllable fire occurrence.
To resolve the aforementioned problems, this capstone project will develop a system that will send warning for fire and smoke detection. The Fire and Smoke Alarm system will provide an early warning of fire so that the damages in both lives and properties will be controlled and prevented. The system will notify the user by sending a short message. Also, this project provides a technology that would be accessible and affordable to the world at large so that homes, offices, and schools can adopt the use in other to protect lives and property.
Objectives of the Study
General Objective – the main objective of this capstone project is to design and develop a system that would provide an early warning of fire and smoke occurrence with an SMS notification.
The specific objectives are the following:
- This capstone project will detect and provide early warning of fire to the registered user.
- Output of the system will have an SMS feature to notify the registered number of the user.
- The project will be accessible and affordable to different sectors like home owners, offices, schools etc.
- To develop a system that is reliable and efficient to use.
Significance of the Study
This section of the document presents the list of beneficiaries or the group of person that maybe benefitted by this project.
Users. The users like home owners, offices, schools and others will be highly benefited by this project. They can use the system to protect lives and properties.
Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP). The system will help them in their job. The system will help them control different fire occurrence.
Researchers. The success of the system will improve their knowledge and programming skills. The researchers will also be appreciated especially in helping protect lives and properties.
Future Researchers. The future researchers can use this study as a reference if they wish to pursue similar study. The output of this project will also serve as a guide on what are the features and scope of the project that they need to upgrade, revise and change.
