ELearning for Beauty Care Chapter 1 Documentation
Chapter 1
Introduction of the Study
When students heard the word history at class the very first word that comes to their mind is boring. Whether we like it or not, we can’t deny the fact that most students don’t like the subject. For teachers, this has become a great hindrance; they needed to find new ways to attract students to like the said subject. Thus, teachers need to make teaching lessons in TLE Beauty Care somewhat different from the traditional way of teaching, and one of those alternative ways is through using CAI.
CAI is known as Computer-Aided Instruction. It is also known as Computer-Assisted Instruction. CAI is a diverse and rapidly expanding spectrum of computer technologies that assist the learning and teaching process. Basically, it is using computers for instructional purposes.
CAI systems can be categorized based on who controls the progression of the lesson. Early systems were linear presentations of information and guided drill, and control was directed by the author of the software. In modern systems, and especially with visualization systems and simulated environments, control often rests with the student or with the instructor. This permits information to be reviewed or examined out of sequence. Related material also may be explored. In some group instructional activities, the lesson can progress according to the dynamics of the group (Douglas N. Arnold).
Objectives of the Study
The main objective of this project is to develop a computer based educational tool for students who wants to study and teach TLE Beauty Care subject that is easy to learn and use.
Specifically, this project aims to:
- To design and develop a computer based instruction for TLE Beauty Care.
- To develop a CAI that provides a method of teaching where students can learn the lessons quickly.
- Provide a lesson presentation based on the selected topics on the course outline of TLE Beauty Care subject in order to provide accurate lesson content that suits the needs of the student.
- Provide a reviewer that student can review their lessons and multimedia illustrations for interactive learning.
- Provide a computer-based learning tool that can be updated and accessed through the schools intranet employing the client-server connectivity.
Scope and Limitations
The study will focus on the development of Computer-Aided Instruction in TLE Beauty Care subject. It covers selected topics of the course which were taken from the course outline of the school.
The Lesson Tutorial and other features can be retrieved by students over the schools intranet. Teachers can add, edit, and delete test questions as well as modules in the proposed system.
The modules and tests can be accessed by the students before and after studying the lessons. Teachers can add, edit, and delete test questions in the proposed system.
The features of the system will focus on log-in/log-out services, tutorials, lesson drills, test evaluations, database maintenance, and help assistant.
Significance of the Study
Findings of this study may enlighten and will give information to the students taking up TLE Beauty Care subject. Therefore, this study is considered beneficial to the following:
Students. This study will motivate the pupils to become interested in the subject and pay much attention to the subject since.
Teachers. Written and verbal expression is the most common teaching method, it needs more than written and verbal expression. Thus, findings of this study will serve as a supplementary resource to enhance students learning in said subject.
Parents. The result of this study will provide relevant information to the parents that will help them to have a better understanding in the said subjects concept as they assist their children in home learning.
School administrators. The findings of this study may give information to the school administrators for the current responses of the students towards Beauty Care subject. Thus, school administrators may support the Mathematics teachers and pupils to enhance students’ skills and interest toward the subject by providing an advance technology as a supplementary resource aside from traditional textbook.
Operational Definition of Terms
The following are the conceptual and operational definition of the words that has been used on this study:
CAI – Computer Assisted Instruction
Visual Basic 6.0 – Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 (VB 6.0) is the programming language used in developing CAI-PHG. It is an integrated development environment from Microsoft. It is used to develop console and graphical user interface applications along with Windows Forms applications
MS Access – database management softwarew as impliedly used to manage the backend database, Structured Query Language (SQL) was used for data manipulation
