Attendance Monitoring System in VB.Net
The project entitled Attendance Monitoring System in VB.Net is networks based information system designed and develop in VB.Net, MySQL and SAP Report.
Purpose and Description:
This project is about the monitoring of student attendance using students’ LRN or learner’s reference number. The purpose of this system is to monitor the number of late students, their absences and of course the number they were present. With the use and implementation of the project the student attendance will be monitored in a timely, efficient and accurate manner. Reports can be automatically generated at the end of the day and then copies will be provided to the respective teachers and concerned personnel.
Development and Testing Phase
The following are the requirements needed in developing the Attendance Monitoring System in VB.Net in VB.Net. It includes the three components of the computer systems which are the software, hardware and people ware.
Software Requirements:
- Operating System – Windows 7/8/10
- Microsoft Visual Studio 2012(express edition 32 bit)
- XAMPP
- Visual Styler
- Google Chrome
- MySQL connector v8
- MySQL ODBC 32 bit
- MySQL V2 DLL
- SAP Report
- Photoshop cc 2019
Hardware Requirements:
The importance of the hardware during the development and implementation of the system must be given attention for the system needs compatible hardware so that it can perform its desired functions.
The following is the list of hardware requirements for development and implementation of the system.
- Processor: Intel Dual Core 2.0Ghz
- Memory:1GB DDR2 (minimum)
- Disk Storage :160 GB(minimum)
Peopleware Requirements:
People refer to persons involved in the development of the system.
- System Administrator – Being the people who are in-charge in the installation, implementation and maintenance they must be trained and oriented on how to use the system properly.
- Students – They will be the one to use the attendance system. They must also be oriented how to use of the system and its intended functions.
Before developing the system, the researchers conducted a survey to the intended respondent if there is a need in the school campus for such system. Unit testing, integration testing and system testing were conducted first to test if the researchers develop the right system. Then, testing such as expert testing and user acceptance or final testing was conducted.
Each part of the system had to be separated in unit testing. Each part had to be tested individually if it is working properly as it should. After unit testing, integration testing follows. Its main purpose is to test if the software units are compatible with each other. Also in integration testing, any inconsistencies are detected between the software units that are integrated called assemblages or between the software units and the hardware.
System testing is performed after all the integrated software and hardware components have successfully passed integration testing. After this, the researchers made an evaluation and conducted the expert testing and user acceptance or final testing in order to test the reliability of the system. In the expert and the final testing, the researchers asked the experts and intended users to try and use the system to test its functionality.
Expert Testing
The researchers conducted an evaluation using McCalls’s Software Quality Model Evaluation Form. The evaluation was conducted to the three (3) experts. The evaluations were conducted and test the Attendance Monitoring System in VB.Net if it follows the Software Quality Standards.
User Acceptance
The User-Acceptance was conducted to the intended respondents after the Expert Testing using the User’s Acceptance Evaluation Form survey questionnaire. The purpose is to test the reliability and functionality of the developed Attendance Monitoring System in VB.Net and if the demand features were met.
The respondents of this study are the students who are enrolled in the institution.
The total number of the students based on the record of school registrar is 1000. Out of the total population, only 266 are taken as respondents.
The researchers used the Slovin’s formula with the margin of error of 5% or 0.05 to get the sampling size of the total respondents.

Implementation Result
After conducting an investigation, the result of the evaluation was presented. The developed system was evaluated by three IT Experts/Programmers using the Software Quality Model based on the criteria set forth by McCall’s. The Attendance Monitoring System in VB.Net has an overall weighted mean of 4.3, which was descriptively rated as very good, only shows that features and functions of the developed system passed the standard criteria for system development.
Based on the user acceptance testing or final testing results gathered, it was proven that the Attendance Monitoring System in VB.Net is reliable having an overall weighted mean of 4.32 which has a descriptive rated of Excellent.
With the findings presented above, it attests that the Attendance Monitoring System in VB.Net adheres to the standards of software development. The results show that the Attendance Monitoring System in VB.Net is effective and useful as an alternative way of manual monitoring in the school campus.
