Traditional educational methods and learning processes may be altered as a result of technological breakthroughs. In teaching and operating school activities and transactions, educational institutions might use a variety of educational technology, computerized systems, and applications. In school, checking student attendance is an important daily activity. Keeping students present and attending classes is a priority. Student attendance is also important for recording and assessing students’ progress in class. Currently, the process of monitoring each student’s attendance is done manually, with activity cards, which list attendance on a sheet of paper, being the only method of tracking each student’s attendance. It appears that doing this work again and over again will be laborious and time-consuming. Errors, redundancies, and discrepancies are unavoidable with these procedures. Inline with this, the researchers aimed to develop a web-based attendance system to monitor the class attendance of the students in class. The list of students who entered and left school will be kept by the system. Every day, the system will keep a careful eye on students’ attendance at school in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner. At the end of each day, the system will generate attendance reports automatically. Reports will be provided to the school faculty for student record tracking and decision-making support purposes. The researchers will develop the project, following the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) technique. The target users of the system are educational institutions, teachers, and students.
Introduction of the Study
The rapid changes and development in technology have altered how every institution operates, and educational institutions are not an exception. There are various smart means and educational tools that emerged as technology also continues to upgrade. The capstone project, entitled “Web-based Attendance System” is an online platform to record and monitor students’ daily attendance in school particularly in their classes. It is a web-based platform that will allow schools to have a centralized repository for students; attendance record which is safe and easy to retrieve.
Checking student attendance is a crucial everyday duty in school. It is a top concern to keep students present and in class. Student attendance is also crucial for keeping track of and measuring students’ academic progress. Today, the process of monitoring each student’s attendance is done manually, whereas class records, index cards, and listing attendance on a sheet of paper are solely used to monitor each student’s attendance. It appears that doing this effort over and over again will be boring and time-consuming. Errors, redundancies, and discrepancies are unavoidable with these procedures. The old attendance recording approach will create unreliable reports of attendance monitoring which require the school to implement an effective system that will properly and effectively store records of students’ attendance and consolidated attendance report.

The researchers presented the Web-based Attendance System as a response to the aforementioned concerns. The technology will keep track of who arrived at school and who left, particularly in their classrooms. Every day, the system will keep a careful eye on students’ attendance at school in a timely, efficient, and accurate manner. Student attendance recording and monitoring will be made easier with the online platform. The system will eliminate the manual attendance method’s faults and issues. The attendance recording will be efficient, timely, convenient, and accurate after the system is implemented.
Objectives of the Study
General Objective – The main goal of the researchers is to implement a web-based attendance system that will digitally transform the whole process of attendance, recording, storing, and retrieval of attendance records.
The researchers specifically recommend the following objectives:
- To create a web-based attendance system that replaces the current method of recording and storing attendance.
- To keep track of students’ attendance at school during their arrival and departure, particularly in their classes.
- To make attendance recording easier by using an online platform.
- To create a system that makes keeping track of attendance records simple and convenient.
- To maintain an accurate list of student attendance and records.
- To evaluate the system in terms of user acceptability, productivity, quality, portability, maintainability, reliability, and functionality.
Scope of the Study
This study focuses solely on the development of a Web-based Attendance System. The purpose of this study is to design and develop a web-based platform for verifying, recording, and saving attendance at school and in their classrooms, to replace the manual method of monitoring and tracking attendance. The focus of this research will be on student attendance in the classroom. To act as study respondents, the researchers will gather a sample size of school teachers, professors, and pupils.

Educational Institutions. Schools will benefit from the project’s success since it will provide a systematic approach for recording student attendance. They will be able to collect accurate and trustworthy attendance data thanks to the technology.
