Abstract
Table of Contents
The automation of all school transactions and activities is powered by information technology. Even within the four walls of the classroom, schools are now employing various technologies to streamline their classroom operations and activities. Technology-assisted teaching approaches and learning processes are increasingly more efficient and effective. Exams are held to examine what students have learned about a particular subject and identify gaps and areas for development in the students’ knowledge. Exams are traditionally given face-to-face in a four-walled corner classroom. Teachers examine students in a classroom setting using printed test questionnaires and conduct the examination manually. The manual approach is considered inefficient and challenging for both teachers and students to use. The investigation was carried out by the researchers in order to build an IT-based solution to fill in the gap in the examination process. The researchers aimed to create a technology-assisted exam management process. The exam management system will efficiently streamline the exam management process. It will allow teachers and students to conduct examinations electronically. The researchers will develop a plan following the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) step-by-step process. The target users of the system are the educational sector, teachers, and students.
Introduction of the Study
Information technology plays a significant role in the teaching and learning process of teachers and students, respectively. IT offers a more efficient and convenient way for teachers and students to learn and assess learnings. The capstone project, “Exam Management System,” is designed to allow electronic management of all the information about the exam questions, courses and subjects, and teachers and students. The said project is an all-in-one platform for student exam management.
At school, teachers test the learning of their students for a specific subject by giving an examination. Traditionally, the exam is paper-based. The teachers will print the exam questionnaire and give it to students in a four-walled corner classroom. This type of examination method requires face-to-face interactions between students and teachers. The traditional process involves a rigorous manual workload, from printing the questionnaire, proper examination, and checking the examination result. For students also need to be attentive and adhere to the schedule of their investigation; they must spend time and effort physically. The traditional method is seen as ineffective and needs to be upgraded by integrating technology.
Proposed Solution
As a response to the concerns mentioned above, the researchers aimed to propose a database driven project. The researchers aimed to develop an online platform for exam management. The proposed project will allow the administrator to facilitate the overall exam management from teachers, students, and examination details. The system will be designed to enable teachers to manage their exam details electronically and the conduct of the exam. They can also electronically process the result of the exam. For students, they can electronically view the list of their exams and take it online. They will also have easy access to their exam result. The proposed project will digitally transform the exam management process, which is more manageable, convenient, and efficient.
Objectives of the Study
General Objective -the researchers aim to design, develop and implement an automated exam management system to replace the manual method.
Specifically, the researchers aim to achieve the following objectives:
- To design an electronic setting for student examination.
- To replace the paper-based test questionnaires with an electronic one.
- To allow teachers to conduct an electronic examination in their classes.
- To let students take exams beyond the four-wall corner of the classroom.
- To reduce the manual workload of the teachers in managing student examinations.
- To subject the project’s output to an evaluation in terms of productivity, quality, reliability, effectiveness, and user acceptability.
Scope of the Study
This study concentrates on developing an IT-based platform for exam management. The researchers aimed to establish a platform for teachers and students to conduct and take the examination, respectively. The project is designed to eliminate the manual process of examination that involves manual workload and paper works. The said system is only limited to school exam management. The researchers will collect a representative sample of teachers and students to act as respondents to the study.
Significance of the Study
Teachers. The success of the initiative will have a direct impact on their lives. It will be simpler for them to deal with it and manage the details of their student’s examination and the test questionnaires. They can conduct the exam electronically, which is more accessible and convenient and get the exam results.
Students. The system will allow them to quickly and conveniently take their exams, and they can also access their exam results anytime and anywhere.
Researchers. The initiative will allow them to further develop their abilities and knowledge as researchers.
Future Researchers. The study can serve as their reference in making their version of the project
Development Tools
The capstone project, “Exam Management System,” is designed to automate exam management. It will electronically transform the conduct of student examinations which is more convenient.

Conclusion
The researchers conducted the study to assess how schools examine to determine the learning of their students. Upon investigation, the researchers have found out that schools usually use the traditional paper-based examination. The researchers have seen many challenges and difficulties using the old method, especially now that we are highly digitized. With this, the researchers developed an automated platform for exam management. The developed system will streamline all the aspects of the examination process between teachers and students.
The developed system was presented to the target end-users for evaluation. The result of the study yielded positively; thus the researchers concluded that the developed system met the needs and requirements of the intended users and respondents. The developed system is perceived to be effective in replacing the traditional method of exam management. It will transform exam management into easy, fast, and convenient for all parties involved.
Recommendations
The researchers strongly recommend the use and implementation of the system in light of the study’s important findings. The researchers recommend the approach due to its efficacy and dependability. It ensures a smooth and efficient exam management process. The researchers also recommend that the intended users should study the features and how to properly use the system to fully utilize the approach in increasing their efficiency and at the same time the easiness and convenience they experience.
The researchers suggest that educational institutions should adapt the system to manage the exam details for students electronically. The teachers also will be able to conveniently and efficiently work and assign examinations to their students if they install the system. The researchers highly recommend the system’s implementation to make exam management easier, fast, convenient, and efficient.
