It can also be a book of words in a single language. A monolingual general-purpose dictionary is typically understood to be meant when the word dictionary is used. Everyone has been using dictionaries since they were young. Everyone should be familiar with how to use it, and everyone should understand how it works. Traditionally, dictionaries are in form of a printed book which is highly inconvenient due to its weight and the meaning of words takes time before you can locate it. Now that we are highly driven by technology, printed dictionaries slowly become outdated. To advance, the researchers of the study delve into creating a digital platform for dictionaries. The capstone project entitled, “English Tagalog Online Dictionary using PHP” is designed as an online platform wherein with just a few taps the user can look for the meaning of a certain word in English and Tagalog versions. The researchers will develop the project using the PHP framework. The Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) technique will also be used by the researchers to design and build the project with complete functionality. This project is downloadable by anyone who wants to have an English Tagalog Dictionary which highly accessible and reliable.
Project Context
Technology makes everything almost possible to achieve with just a few taps. We can gain knowledge through only the use of technology. The capstone project entitled, “English Tagalog Online Dictionary using PHP” is a PHP-based dictionary that will allow the user to search for the meaning of a certain word both in English and in Tagalog. The users would only need to download the system and create their accounts to be able to have unlimited access to the system. They can use it for whatever purposes especially educational purposes.
Everyone has used dictionaries since they were children. Everyone should be familiar with how to use it and understand how it functions. Traditionally, dictionaries are in the form of a printed book, which is problematic owing to its weight and the time it takes to locate the meaning of terms. With the advancement of technology, printed dictionaries are gradually becoming obsolete and antiquated.
What is an Online Dictionary?
A dictionary is a collection of terminology in one or more languages, often with the user data, meanings, pronunciations, translations, and other information. It can also be a single-language word book. To stay up with the benefits of technology innovation, the traditional dictionary must be updated and modified. Although the meaning of words can now be found on the internet, the researchers intended to create a system that could deliver the meaning of words in English and Tagalog with a few taps. The researchers saw the necessity for dictionaries to be computerized.
Development of Online Dictionary
To address the aforementioned needs for development, the researchers of the study proposed the development of the English Tagalog Online Dictionary using PHP. The project is designed as an online platform wherein with just a few taps the user can look for the meaning of a certain word in English and Tagalog versions. The researchers will develop the project using the PHP Programming Language. To gain unrestricted access to the system, individuals would only need to download the system and create their accounts. They can utilize it for anything, especially educational purposes.
Objectives of the Study
General Objective – the researchers aim to develop and implement an English Tagalog Online Dictionary using PHP.
It specifically aimed to:
- To design an online dictionary that will generate the meaning of words in English and Tagalog.
- To develop a PHP-based dictionary that is highly reliable and accessible.
- To allow users to search for meanings within just a few taps.
- To ease up and centralized the process of searching for word meanings.
- To evaluate the system in terms of user acceptability, maintainability, reliability, productivity, quality, and efficiency.
Scope of the Study
The researchers are working on creating a PHP-based English Tagalog Online Dictionary so that users may simply find the meaning of terms. The aforementioned online dictionary would only provide word definitions in English and Tagalog. Individuals who want to use a dictionary, particularly students, are the system’s intended users. This project will be developed by the researchers using the PHP framework.

As the world becomes increasingly digital, online dictionaries are becoming more and more important. Here are five reasons why you should use an online dictionary:

Login Form – this form will be used to access the system. The users will input their username and password to be able to access and use the system.

Search Box – this will allow searching definition of the word. The user would only need to encode the word or terminology to be able to search for the word.

Conclusion
This study was conducted to design and develop an English Tagalog Online Dictionary using PHP. This project was an initiative of the researchers to fully transition the traditional dictionary to an electronic one. The researchers designed the project having to a dual language definition that will allow the user to fully understand the definition of the word. The researchers developed the system and presented it to the target end-users. The result of the study showed that the developed system met the needs and requirements of the end-users. It is a highly reliable and accessible dictionary for users.
Recommendations
The researchers suggested that the end-users should register and create their accounts in the system to have unlimited access. They are recommended to use the system because they can easily find the definition of words and in two languages already. This will help them easily understand the term they are searching for.
