The capstone project, “QR Code Fare Payment System” is designed to automate the procedure of paying for a fare when riding a vehicle. Passengers will register in the system to receive their own QR code, which they will use to pay for their fares by scanning in the system’s QR code scanning page. The project will enable cashless fare payment.
Conventionally, a public utility vehicle fare payment system is done manually. Passengers will receive paper tickets that display the number of fares they must pay. This method is ineffective and is prone to human errors. The conventional method requires human power which means hiring more numbers of staff to facilitate the ticketing and collection of payment. Errors in the amount of payment and changes also have a high percentage to occur. The manual fare payment system has a lot of disadvantages that result in service inefficiency and unsatisfying customer experience.
Proposed Solution
The researchers of the study proposed QR Code Fare Payment System to resolve the aforementioned problems encountered in the manual method of fare payment. The proposed system will eliminate the need of paying in cash when riding a public utility vehicle. The passengers can electronically pay for their fares by using the system. The users will only register to the system to have their own QR code. The QR code will contain their information as well as their balances that they can use to pay for fares. When riding in a public utility vehicle, the users can log in to the system and scan their QR code on the QR scanning page to process their payment easily, quickly, and conveniently. The QR code fare payment system will improve the customer service and experience in riding public utility vehicles.
Objectives of the Study
General Objectives – the researchers of the project aim to design and develop a system that will automate the process of paying for fares when riding public utility vehicles.
Specifically, the project aims the following objectives:
- To design a system that will generate QR codes for the registered users that they can use to electronically par for fares.
- The develop project is a fare payment system that is based on QR Codes.
- The system will contain the information of the passengers as well as their balances to pay for fares.
- The system will bring great convenience to the passengers.
- The system will eliminate manual ticketing and collection of payments.
- To develop a bus fare system that is convenient, accurate, and reliable to use.
Scope of the Study
The researchers of the project mainly focus on designing, developing, and implementing a QR Code Fare Payment System. The passengers will register in the system. After registering, the system will generate the QR Codes of the passengers that store their information and the details of their balances. The project is limited to developing a system that will ease up bus fare payment. The respondents of the project will be public utility vehicles and passengers.
Significance of the Study
The success of the project is deemed beneficial to the following individuals or groups:
Public Utility Vehicles. The system will ease up the job of the PUV staff in managing and collecting the fares of the passengers.
Passengers. The success of the project will directly benefit them. The system will let them conveniently pay for their fares. They can fee for their fare in a fast and hassle-free manner.
Researchers. The success of the study will contribute to the knowledge and skills of the researchers. The researchers will discover and learn new lessons while conducting the project.
Future Researchers. The project can serve as their guide if they wish to pursue the same study and develop their own fare payment system.

The capstone project “QR Code Fare Payment System” is a system that allows PUV passengers to pay for fares electronically. The system will generate QR codes of the passengers that store their information and electronic money balances.

Passenger Information – this form requires the information of the passengers to generate their own QR code. The generated QR code will be used by the passengers in paying for their fare.

Reload Center Information – this form will allow the admin to manage information of the reload centers registered in the system. The reload centers is where the passengers can inquire reload to electronically pay for their fares.
The admin will encode the following information:
- Center name
- Business owner
- Complete Address
- View Map

- Password
- Status – activated, deactivated

Vehicle Management – this module will allow the admin to manage registered vehicles in the system. The admin will input vehicle information in the system.

- Driver name
- Vehicle Type

- Maximum Seat

Conclusion
Great advancements in technology allow different sectors to fully optimized their services and operations. The researchers conducted the study to investigate the current method of fare payment in the transportation sector. The researchers have found out that the current method is ineffective, requires too much labor and time. With this, the researchers developed a QR Code Fare Payment System to resolve the issues encountered in the current method. The result of the study showed that the developed system met the needs and requirements of the respondents and the intended users. The majority of the respondents and intended users have seen the potential of the system.
Thus, the researchers concluded that the system is an effective and efficient fare payment system. The developed system will allow PUV’s to lessen manpower and avoid errors in calculating fares. The system is also a great advantage to the passengers because they can easily and conveniently pay for their fares without needing cash on hand. The system will improve the PUV service and customer experience.
Recommendations
The result of the study showed that the system is efficient and reliable in eliminating all the problems encountered in the current method of the Fare Payment System. The result of the study prompts the researchers to highly recommend the implementation of the system in public utility vehicles. The researchers strongly suggest that PUV’s should replace the current method of paying for fares into QR Code based fare payment system. The researchers also highlight the importance of the intended users having enough knowledge of how to properly operate the system.
The researchers of the project specifically recommend the following:
- The researchers recommend that PUV passengers should install and register in the system to have their own QR Code to pay electronically for fares.
- The researchers recommend that public utility vehicles should incorporate the system in collecting their fares.
- The implementation of the system is highly recommended for its efficiency, reliability, and convenience that can be offered to the intended users.
