Abstract of Computerized Library System
ABSTRACT/Executive Summary
The study was conducted to assess the level of performance of a manually-assisted library system of a high school library in terms of speed, accuracy, security and usability, the level of need to develop a computerized library system, and the level of preference for developing an automated library system.
The study was focused only on the assessment of performance of the manual library system of a high school library as well as the design and development of the proposed computerized library system which is the Library System – Basis for Automation.
The respondents of the study were the three hundred fifty seven students of the school. The researchers used the stratified random sampling after determining the sample size to reach the target respondents. Descriptive research was used in gathering information useful in the study. To analyze and interpret the data gathered, the researchers used the weighted arithmetic mean.
After a thorough investigation and study, the researchers found out that the performance of a manually – assisted library system in terms of speed, accuracy, security and usability is good. Another part is to assess the respondents perceptions on the need to develop a computerized library system and the preference of the important features included in the system. The five – point likert scale was used to determine survey result. After data interpretation, the researchers found out that the respondents were agree regarding on the need to develop an computerized library system and they also preferred of the important features suggested by the researcher to be included in the system.
The researchers concluded that the use of manual procedures in the library does not provide speedy, accurate, secure and usable result compared to the automated library system. It was also identified that the level of need to develop an automated library system the respondents were agree and the preferred the important suggested features of the system.
The researchers’ recommended the use of Computerized Library System to help improve the services of the School Library.
